What: Girls Rock Camp Austin Band Showcase
All Ages. $5 suggested donation.
When: Saturday, July 31, 2010.
Doors open at noon, show starts at 1pm.
Where: The Highball, 1142 S. Lamar Blvd.
An anonymous donor has agreed to match every dollar up to $5,000 that
the organization is able to raise by August 15 th, 2010. This includes
the $5 suggested donation at the door. Please come enjoy great music
and help us meet our fundraising goal!

Girls Rock Austin has come into an unprecedented opportunity. An
anonymous donor has pledged to match every dollar up to $5,000 that
we’re able to raise by August 15, 2010. With your help we’ll
have
$10,000 to put directly back into programs that empower young girls.

Chances are you’ve heard the buzz about Girls Rock Austin. Maybe

heard about our summer camp on KUT or read about us in /Texas Monthly/.
Maybe your own daughter has been to Girls Rock Camp and you’ve gotten
to
see first-hand how much a group of girls from all different backgrounds
and musical abilities can grow and accomplish in just five days.
If somehow you’ve missed the buzz, here’s what you need to
know: Girls
Rock Austin provides an opportunity for the girls of Austin to come
together, share ideas, and express themselves through music education.
Girls Rock Austin needs your help to grow from a summer-only program
into a year round organization. In the past three years, we have served
hundreds of girls, but we have not been able to meet all the requests
for additional programs due to our limited resources.
Please consider giving any amount meaningful to you or making a monthly
gift. A gift of just $25/month sends a girl to summer camp or supports a
semester of after-school programming. Simply put, your gift has the
power to make music and grow young lives, and we hope you'll share in
our vision for both. And remember, any amount you give before August 15
will have double the impact, thanks to our generous donor.

2010 GIRLS ROCK CAMP DATES ARE ANNOUNCED
Girls Rock Camp Dates:
Session 1: June 14-18; showcase Saturday, June 19
Session 2: July 26-30; showcase Saturday, July 31
Camp will take place at The Griffin School, 222 East 41st street
Please note that campers may not attend more than one session in the
same summer.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE DO NOT call The Griffin School for information
about camp or the application process and DO NOT SEND or DROP OFF any
application materials at the school. Application materials sent to or
dropped off at the school will not be considered.

What Is Girls Rock Camp Austin?
Girls Rock Camp Austin is a summer day camp that offers musical instruction as well as a variety of workshops and performances in a positive, all-female environment intended to give girls the tools to succeed in music-related ventures, as well as in other fields of their choosing. The camp creates leadership opportunities, cultivates a supportive community of peers and mentors and encourages social change and the development of life skills.
Campers learn to play instruments of their choosing (guitars, drums, bass, keyboards, or vocals), form bands, write songs and perform live at a showcase at the end of the camp. They also attend workshops on women who rock, self-defense, images of girls and women in popular culture, the music business, rock writing and zine-making and more.
